The University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy has been on the forefront of pharmacy education for more than a century. Since 1870, the UK College of Pharmacy and formerly the Louisville College of Pharmacy, has educated more than 5,500 pharmacists. Through the turn of two centuries, through two world wars, through significant advances in technology and healthcare systems, Kentucky pharmacists haven’t just evolved with the profession, they have led the profession.
Today, we look to the future with a new building with three times the space of our current building on Rose Street and more than six times the space in the college’s first UK home in the Slone Building. We will have a building equipped with the latest in wireless technology, state-of-the-art research and teaching laboratories, classrooms and auditoriums that will be a monument of success for the University of Kentucky, the Commonwealth and the pharmacy profession.
For those who hauled lab equipment in their car from Louisville to Lexington as the College transitioned to UK and those who celebrated the opening of the new Rose Street building in 1985 as well as alumni who spent time learning in any of these buildings, this new facility isn’t just about space to educate the next generation of pharmacists, it is about preserving and advancing the tradition of progress, innovation and success.
